Recognition of Savoy’s Signature excellence
Crowning a resurgent year, Savoy Signature is delighted to have scooped two prizes at the prestigious World Travel Awards 2021
Two Savoy Signature gems on the island of Madeira have been recognised at the recent World Travel Awards, capping off a highly successful year for the group. Savoy Palace won Portugal’s ‘Leading Luxury Hotel 2021’ and Saccharum won Europe’s ‘Leading Island Resort 2021’. Adding to this, Madeira won Europe’s ‘Leading Island Destination 2021’.
Ricardo Farinha, Savoy Signature Board Member says: “We are delighted to have been acknowledged not once but twice for Savoy Palace and Saccharum at the World Travel Awards. This is testament to our hard-working team that deliver the very best in guest service.”
Savoy Palace
Savoy Palace, Madeira’s only member of Leading Hotels of The World, is a game-changer for the destination in terms of contemporary luxury properties. The 16-floor, 352-room resort has stunning Atlantic Ocean views with striking design by renowned local designer Nini Andrade da Silva’s, who blends bold, modern and historic styles. The resort, just a short walk from Funchal’s stylish Old Town, and has a destination spa inspired by the island’s UNESCO Heritage Site, Laurissilva Forest.
There are several restaurants and bars, a children’s club, numerous swimming pools (including an adults-only infinity pool on the 16th floor with butler service) and even a “boutique-hotel-within-a-hotel”. Dining takes centre stage at Galaxia, which offers a 360-degree view of Madeira to be enjoyed with world class food and wine.
An all-seasons destination
A firm favourite of Conde Nast Traveller’s readers, Savoy Palace is 20km from the international airport, it provides the perfect base from which to explore the stunning and varied archipelago of Madeira. December and January are pleasantly sunny with highs of 14 degrees. On the same latitude as Morocco, and with some of the most striking landscapes in Europe, this Atlantic archipelago has a sub-tropical climate and dramatic mountainous terrain.
Saccharum
The island’s long history of sugar cane production was Nini Andrade da Silva’s interior design reference for the hotel, which is built on the site of an old sugar mill.
There are 243 rooms and suites, and five pools – one just for children. The spa offers guests a holistic approach to wellbeing with a soothing menu of treatments, as well as an energising exercise programme to help guests centre and re-energise mind and body, including Hatha Yoga and Tai Chi.
Saccharum are just as passionate about their food and drink. The Alambique restaurant is inspired by the processes that occurred in the old sugar distillery and is dedicated to marrying the cream of Madeira’s gastronomy with international flavours. Engenho offers guests stunning views and freshly prepared breakfasts. And then in the evening, the buffet offers a whole world of flavours ranging from the Mediterranean to Madeira’s traditions.
