Vatavaran – London’s latest fine-dining Indian restaurant, inspired by the Himalayas

We had the pleasure of taking a trip down to Vatavaran to try their amazing dishes – We were greeted in the most friendly manner at the restaurant and can honestly say that all the staff were extremely thoughtful and attentive without being intrusive. Where we sat was what the restaurant calls ‘the ridge’ (of the mountain) the second and third floors were called – ‘the meadow’ and ‘the peak’ ’of the mountain respectively. ‘The peak’ of the restaurant is the exclusive cocktail lounge, Shikhar. All the floors had a different atmosphere and colour scheme so the name belied the vision.

We had the taster menu which was a four course meal. All the food was pleasantly spiced. To start, we were offered the most incredible popadoms made from lentils, incredibly delicate and delicious. The first dish was garnished with pomegranate and violet flowers and set the tastebuds up for what came after. My husband particularly found the salmon dish with the beetroot coulis impressive. Then we had a taste of Himalayan curry, chicken for me, lamb for him. To finish we had a carrot cake with a difference. It wasn’t sweet but very silky and smooth which pleased us both. In addition, the white Sauvignon wine was excellent and really good quality.
