The glass igloo cabin with the Northern lights in the background

New luxury Lapland ‘igloos’ create immersive Northern Lights experience

Visitors to Lapland can now experience the wonder of the Northern Lights from the comfort of new luxurious igloo-style glass-roofed cabins.

The new glass igloo cabins are included in an immersive new six-day Stars of Scandinavia experience created by specialist Scandinavian travel company Off the Map Travel.

The new itinerary will give Northern Lights fans the chance to enjoy the dazzling Aurora Borealis from a series of lavish cabins in Finland, which provide panoramic views of the phenomenon through their glass domed roofs.

Starting in Tromso, Norway, the tour travels to the Finnish village of Kilpisjärvi and the first of two glass roofed bedrooms.

Launched for international visitors for the first time this winter season, the new Wau House Igloo all face north to get the best possible view of the Northern Lights.

Set over two floors, the luxury accommodation sleeps up to four guests including a master bedroom enclosed in a bespoke rooftop glass igloo.

“The northern lights are magical, but you never know when they will appear, so we wanted to give our guests the best chance and not miss a second of the action with this new travel experience,” Jonny Cooper, founder of Off the Map Travel, said.

Guests can lie back on their comfortable queen-sized bed with low level red lighting to enable guests’ eyes to adjust to the night sky – creating the perfect environment to enjoy the Northern Lights.

“These new cabins are stunning and a real find,” Cooper added: “The view is spectacular looking out over the Arctic tundra, then it really comes alive at night as you lie in bed waiting and watching for the Northern Lights.

“This is a perfect trip for someone that wants to tick the Northern Lights off their bucket list – but do it with style and comfort.”

Guests then travel south to Rovaniemi, and another glass roofed bedroom. The Lappish Kammi Suites are authentic, ecological, and come with a glass dome covering the double bed on the cabin’s mezzanine for more uninterrupted views into the Arctic night sky.

During the day, guests will experience the culture and wilderness of the region including husky sledding, a fatbike tour, and snowmobile adventure to the border point of Norway, Finland and Sweden, meet reindeer and learn about Sami culture.

The six-day, five-night Stars of Scandinavia itinerary costs from £1795 per person, on a mixed board basis, based on two travelling, not including flights.

This includes transfers throughout, quality 4* hotel accommodation in Tromso, four nights in luxury glass roofed accommodation, and all activities listed.
